Melbourne Smashers invites you to Masterbaker 2025 - a baking competition between our fellow LGBTQIA+ sports clubs to raise important funds for the amazing services provided by Thorne Harbour Health. Melbourne Smashers are defending the title of Masterbaker from the last Northside Bizarre event in 2019! Register your interest to be part of our Smashers baking team, it's FREE! We'll contact you directly with more details. Alongside the Masterbaker 2025 event, the Northside Bizarre is hosting other fun activities such as the VicBears BearBQ, Dykes on Bikes, and much more! Important Information: 1. Arrival Time Please arrive from 11:00 am to allow enough time for your team to set up in the MasterBaker area at the Collingwood Masonic Hall (149 Gipps St, Abbotsford VIC 3067). Entry is via the car park (walking access only). 2. Bump In & Unloading There is no car access directly to the venue. Henry Street (via Gipps Street) will be closed. We recommend accessing Henry Street via Langridge Street and unloading near 48 Henry Street, where public parking (non-residential) is available. Volunteers will be on hand with trolleys to assist if needed. 3. Competition Running Order 12:00pm – Attendees arrive. Have your taster trays ready and start engaging the crowd to drive sales and votes. 1:00pm – Judging round begins. Make sure your best confectionery is set aside for the judges. 3:30pm – Crowd votes tallied and donations counted. 4:00pm – Winner announced! 4. Sales We have QR codes set up via Square for donations at your station. Each sweet treat is priced at $2.50 (donation). Think strategically about portion sizes and presentation to maximise your fundraising total. 5. Health & Safety To align with our FoodTrader permit requirements and the Food Act 1984 (Vic): Wash hands before and during food prep, and keep benches, tools, and utensils clean (when making at home). *All preparation of confectionery is done before the event at home  Keep ingredients covered and stored properly to avoid contamination. Use clean equipment for icing and decorations. Transport baked goods in sealed containers. Clearly label items containing common allergens (nuts, dairy, eggs, gluten). We will have spare labels available on the day. Consider offering some dietary-friendly options to boost sales. Further safety for cream/custard/soft cheese/mousse items: These must be made within 48 hours of the event (no earlier than Thursday 9 October). Keep refrigerated until the event. Once at room temperature on the day, items must be consumed within 4 hours. A cooler will be available on site if you need temporary storage. 5. Social Media To promote the Masterbaker competition and your teams, do feel free to post photos/videos on Instagram of you preparing your confectionery, tagging in Thorne Harbour Health and the Laird. We are pleased to announce our upcoming 2025 Spring Club Tournament.   The event will take place on Saturday, 4 October (8am-5pm) at the Melbourne Sports & Aquatic Centre Badminton Hall. The tournament is open to all members (no guests or non-members due to limited places available). Tournament Grades Please ensure to take note of the following grading information! The tournament will host grades for A, B, and C. This will be matched to your Birdie Buddy grade. The grade in which you and your teammate participate will be the grade that is the highest between you and your partner. For example, if Teammate 1 is grade C and Teammate 2 is grade B, your team will play in grade B. Higher grades cannot be registered to play in lower grades. Playing Doubles If you have another Smashers member you have agreed to pair with then please include their name in the registration. If you don't have a doubles partner you can still register and we can help you pair up. Round Robin and Competition Rounds The tournament will follow our normal tournament style with round robins played first to seed pairs followed by competition knock out rounds. What's included? Snacks and a light lunch will be provided on the day. During ticket purchase you'll be given the option to provide any dietary requirements. Your ticket will also include a new season Smashers T-shirt (sizes M-4XL available) and a complimentary standard drink at our awards ceremony.
