Melbourne Smashers Club Tournament

Get your Partners ready! Our next club tournament has been locked in for Saturday 7th May 2022.

This is a great opportunity to have some fun and a bit of competition!

The tournament will follow our usual format and is doubles only, with a round-robin session followed by a Double-Elimination Round.

At least one person in the partnership must be a Member of the Melbourne Smashers or from one of our sister LGBTIQ+ Badminton Clubs, such as the Shuttlecats.

Competition will be held in A, B and C grades. Depending on numbers, B and C grades may be divided into two streams, 1 and 2. This will be done following the completion of the Round Robin session.

When you register, please provide a note stating which grade you would like to be entered into, and who your playing partner is. As part of the registration process you will be able to let us know if you don't yet have a partner, and also if you would like us to find a partner for you.

Rules

There are some changed rules that players should take note of. The Committee will be adhering to them during the Tournament. Please see the details below.

The Grading standards have changed, please read this carefully to avoid confusion:

  • Your Badboard Level will determine your Tournament Grade
    • Levels 1–3: Must play in A Grade
    • Levels 4–6: Must play in B Grade or higher (we will be splitting B Grade into 2 streams at a minimum)
    • Levels 7–10: Can play in C Grade or higher
    • Please note that levels cannot be changed to a lower level (in Badboard) from 17th April until after the Tournament.
  • If you partner with someone with a different grade to you, your team must play in the section that the highest rated player is in. Example, if a Level 6 plays in the Tournament with a Level 7, then you must play in B Grade. If a Level 4 plays with a Level 3, then that pairing must play in A Grade etc.
  • If you have won a Grade Tournament in our previous Touranments, we strongly encourage you to move up a Grade (unless you are already in A)
  • If you are playing with a partner that is not a Melbourne Smashers Member, then you must play together at least twice at a regular Club session so that Jeff, Ua or Mark can verify the level of the external player. To keep things fair for all participants, we need to make sure that external players are also playing within their correct levels. If you are coming from outside of VIctoria for the Tournament and cannot attend a regular session, please contact the Committee to discuss your level.
  • For all visiting players (from our sister Clubs), you can choose your level when booking your ticket, but the committee reserves the right to make changes to pairing gradings on the day if we need to align you to players of your same ability.

These rules have been put into place to make the Tournament fairer for all players. By participating in the Tournament, you confirm that you accept the grading conditions explained above.

Ticket Options

Even though Court costs and shuttle costs have increased, we have decided to keep the cost at our normal $35 per ticket.

Please Note:

If you don't have a Partner, you can sign up as an individual and we will pair you up later

In order to keep sessions running as smoothly as possible, we will enable PAIRING in Badboard only two weeks before the tournament. Pairings will not be allowed prior to this.

If you have any questions, please contact Ua or Jeff via the Committee.
